The library depends on its volunteers to keep its doors open. Most volunteers work 2 ½ hour shifts, either weekly or biweekly. They may help to check books in and out, assist patrons, shelve books, tapes, videos, and DVDs; put labels on new items; or help keep the computers running. Volunteers range from middle school and high school students to retired folks.

If you would like to volunteer at the library (either by taking a weekly or biweekly 2 ½-hour shift or by helping with special projects for toddlers/preschoolers, elementary-school-age kids, or young adults, or with a family game night or anything else!), stop by and fill out a volunteer information form. Working at the library is a great way to get to know your neighbors!

Featured Volunteer, Joseph LaClaire

For the past year, we have benefited from the assistance of Joseph LaClaire. A recent high school graduate who grew up in Leverett, Joseph performs a variety of tasks from helping to open up and close down the library to collecting items to send to patrons at other libraries to shelving books. Joseph says that the best part about volunteering is that he gets to be around so many books, and the worst part is that he can’t stop and read them all while he is working here! The library couldn’t run without our 30-40 volunteers who perform a variety of tasks from helping out at the front desk to working behind the scenes covering new books, delivering items to homebound residents, working on the library website, and much more. We are always looking for new volunteers, and will try to find tasks that interest you.

We are currently looking for a volunteer who would like to repair damaged books. We will provide the supplies, and you may do the work at the library or at your own home at your convenience.
