About the Friends of Leverett Library
The Friends of Leverett Library are active in supporting the Library in a variety of ways. According to the Bylaws, the group was organized to “maintain an association of persons interested in books and libraries and to focus public attention on library services, facilities and needs.” The group is a 501c3 non-profit organization that has been active since the early 1990’s. We welcome new members.
A primary goal of the Friends is to augment the Library budget. We raise funds through an annual membership drive, donations, and fundraising activities such as the sale of tee shirts, tote bags, mugs, and puzzles, all with a Leverett identity. These items are available at the Library
Each year funds raised by the Friends of Leverett Library are used to support the Library and provide services to its patrons. The Friends:
- Contribute money to support programming for children and adults, including speakers, story hours and summer reading programs.
- Provide the library with funds for equipment beyond what the regular budget provides, such as magazine display racks, a color copier for staff use, and the outdoor sign announcing upcoming events.
- Purchase Museum Passes for use by patrons.
- Work with the Library Director to compile and post a quarterly listing of all New Books acquired by the Library.
The Friends activities are coordinated by a seven member Board. The Board meets as needed, with an Annual Meeting of all members in the fall with a guest speaker.
